The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago's Community Schools Initiative is a collaborative partnership of individuals and organizations working to provide high quality services to youth and adults within partner Chicago Public Schools. The YMCA currently provides Community Schools programming in nine Chicago public elementary schools ranging from academic enrichment, personal finance workshops, fitness classes, health clinics and computer literacy.
During after-school hours and in the summer, the Y’s community schools provide a safe place for kids, while fostering academic enhancement and healthy lifestyles. YMCA Community Schools also provide a variety of comprehensive programming available to the greater community assuring that both student and family educational opportunities are met.
The YMCA partners with more than 30 organizations including: Chapin Hall, Children’s Home and Aid, Joffrey Ballet, Merit School of Music and Orion’s Mind to offer a full range of services to youth and adults in the community.
